Sometimes you don’t need a whole weekend away. You need one evening where nobody needs anything from you, a good night’s sleep somewhere quiet, and a morning among the trees.
That’s what our Micro Overnight is for. Arrive Friday evening at Souls Path, 60 acres of forest and meadow on the Oak Ridges Moraine near Port Perry, and settle into the lodge. At 8:00 we gather for Flowing Stillness, an evening of yoga nidra and sound with Kate Carson (www.katemcarson.com).
If you’ve never tried yoga nidra, it’s about as gentle as practice gets. You lie down, get comfortable under a blanket, and Kate’s voice guides you into that soft place between awake and asleep. There’s nothing to do and nothing to get right. Layered with sound, it’s an hour and a half of the kind of rest most of us rarely give ourselves.
Kate describes herself as a rest facilitator, and that’s exactly what she does. She teaches yoga nidra, meditation, and yoga, and brings rest practices to studios, workplaces, and her own mobile meditation studio. She believes rest is something we have to make room for, and this evening is that room.
After the session, the night is yours. Sit by the wood fire, step outside to look at the stars, or carry that sleepy calm straight to bed.
In the morning we share a simple, homemade breakfast, then at 10:00 head into the forest with Randi Micklewright for a guided forest bathing walk. It’s not a hike. It’s an unhurried wander where we slow down, notice what’s around us, and let the woods do some of the work. No experience needed.
Randi is a forest bathing guide and Registered Psychotherapist who has spent years helping people find their way back to the natural world, and to themselves. She serves on the board of Nature and Forest Therapists of Canada and leads programming here at Souls Path. You can learn more about her work at randimicklewright.ca.
You’ll wrap up at noon, with the rest of your weekend still ahead of you.
